However, both neighborhoods have commerce within, too. With CP it's all located at the block of McLendon between Page/Brooks and Clifton, with a tiny bit at Oakdale. Both IP and CP have commerce along Dekalb Ave.
Inman Park has alot of newer mixed with older commercial, restaurants, art galleries, retail & residential in the form of condos, single family housing and apartments with the wonder PATH Trail PATH Foundation alongside Highland Blvd Inman Park Village . I love the charm of that street and how it twists and turns from one neighborhood to another (Old 4th Ward/Inman Park/Poncey Highland/VAHI/Morningside-Lenox Park). I remember riding my bike/jogging that street in 2003 when it was a no mans land heading into VAHI when nothing but Fritti and Sotto Sotto were alongside that street now it's BOOMING!

This thread has piqued my IP curiosity. We kind of ruled it out due to the price, but maybe it would be worth squeezing into a smaller space. Haven't been able to find a perfect fit for us, neighborhood-wise.

Is there a "downtown" IP or Inman Park Village type of thing? Where would I go to get the full IP flavor in a short period of time?
You know that there is a real Inman Park Village right? It's a development. Here is their website: Inman Park Village To me - it's the "new" Inman Park. There are great restaurants all in the surrounding area:

Fritti & Sotto Sotto (which are side by side) U Restaurants

Parish: Concentrics Restaurants

Zaya: ZAYARESTAURANT.COM

North Highland Pub: Welcome to Cuisine Management

Wisteria: www.wisteria-atlanta.com

Loco Lino: www.localino.info

Of course, the holy trinity of Rathbun's, Rathbun's Steaks and The Krog Bar: Rathbun's by Chef Kevin Rathbun of Rathbun's & Krog Bar - Restaurants in Atlanta - restaurantsinatlanta.com

Shaun's: www.shaunsrestaurant.com

Inman Perk Coffee: www.inmanperkcoffee.com

The Albert: www.thealbertatlanta.com

Son's Place: Son's Place / Atlanta Restaurants

I know this is not Inman Park - but I have to let you know about Fox Brothers BBQ: www.foxbrosbbq.com

If I were to give a tour of Inman Park, I would certainly show the new stuff in Inman Park Village but the heart of Inman Park in my opinion is centered around the house of the Candler Mansion. It is at the corner of Euclid and Elizabeth. I would then meander around the many streets.

If you are at Delta Park which is at Delta and Edgewood - you will see a very strange black booth that looks like a telephone booth. The Victorian Police would detain you in the booth until the horse drawn paddy wagon would come an escort you to jail.

I just wanted to add that Brunning & Stang, one of the buiilders currently associated with Inman Park Village (IPV), is awesome. They are currently building our home, and we are extremely pleased with both their responsiveness and quality of the product. I cannot recommend them enough!

So...I took the quick n' dirty version of George's IP tour (by car due to my daughter's crabbiness) and...I finally get it. Think my problem was that I was touring the fringes of IP rather than the heart. The architecture is quite grand, the tree canopy is dramatic, the flavor is different from CP. (Love the CP shagginess, though.) I'm going to go back on foot and get the full IP experience in a few weeks, maybe check out a restaurant. One thing--couldn't find Inman Perk, is it closed?

Curious about IP Village--this seems to be a very successful development. I'm guessing this is due to IP's mature stage in gentrification. Compare that with the similar development in Grant Park that has a bunch of units on the market and for rent, and of course, Titanic Station.

I believe Inman Perk has moved across the street from it's original location...I mean literally across the street.

And there's one in Emory Village now, too.

Yep, IP is just a much grander, magical place than just about anywhere else in Atlanta.

Like you mentioned, what really draws me to CP is that "shagginess". I am more comfortable there. I am a really eclectic, granola, weird sculpture in the garden, shaggy kind of girl. CP feels like home. I'd live here even if I won the megabucks.

But I love having IP right there because it's just such a beautiful neighborhood.

Yes - Inman Perk is now on Highland.

240 N Highland Ave NE
(678) 705-4545

I think that you will really enjoy the neighborhood on foot. Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know about "my hood".
