Chip, great information, but the only issue is the fact it covers such a broad base. Chicago vs Atanta.
It is hard to compare the Gold Coast to the Loop or Barrington to Crystal Lake as it is comparing Buckhead to Five Points or Alpharetta to Norcross.

In my honest assessment, I through my own personal living found Chicago to be a little and I say only a little higher than Atlanta. The main reason is the overall home cost and what you get in regard to a home. Outside of that? Nothing.

If you place a pencil to it and drill it down all other cost, rather higher in some point or lower in others will equal out less the cost of real estate.

It's all opinion I guess. It is just when I lived in Chicago I felt if I paid for an Italian Beef I received an Italian Beef. In Atlanta I feel when I pay for Prime Bar-b-Que I receive Sloppy Joe in a can. Again, my opinion.

Okay MIZZ M ... NOW you gotta come to City of Atlanta, Fulton County and CLEAN UP! Proscecute to your hearts content! LOL You'll also be a very, very busy woman!

In all honesty, fairness and admiration ... you'll do WELL anywhere these days!

BTW, my former sister-in-law is a Superior Court judge in California. I don't know how she does it, she's tough and I wouldn't be on the other end of a PARKING VIOLATION in her court.

Gosh I admire you people who work with shall I say the 'unhappier aspects of people's lives" ... Bravo to you! No one is gonna 'mess with ya" ... that is for sure!

My hat's off to all law enforcement & folks in the judicial world.

BTW, I'm a native Southern Californian. You have my permission to "clean up" there too ...

If your looking for an extremely crime-ridden city than Chicago is your place, just be careful moving there. Atlanta is crime-ridden as well, but you'll probably do more in your field in Chicago. The cost of living is cheaper in Atlanta than Chicago thats what I was saying, but you should be fine finding something you can afford in Chicago... Good luck.... If your trying to find somewhere safe to live than let me know I know both cities fairly well.

Chip, Where in Chicago do you live?

I was just reviewing crime rate stat's from the FBI and Atlanta wins over Chicago hands down.
Overall by numbers there is "more" in Chicago than Atlanta, but broken down by percentage of population or in other words the chances of happening to you? Well, it's Atlanta! 22.6 out of 100,000 vs. 16.4 for Chicago.

Oh, now try not to be so touchy.
I don't need to go back to school. Already have an AABA, BSBA, and MS plus additional grad school FYI.
I know Georgia has beaches, but we are talking Atlanta not Savannah. And come on, the Lakes are not that cold. So you might experience some fast shrinkage, but it doesn't last long. Your just to tender.

Chicago is more of a city than Atlanta but Atlanta is a better city for you. I know u dont want to live in a city that has sub zero temps for a large part of the winter do you? You might want to drive to florida on the weekend, you can find a 4/5 bedroom house in neighborhoods filled with people that look like you, you cant really find that in Chicago when compared to Atlanta. You can see Tyler Perry plays, listen to Jazz at Winddown Wednesday in downtown afterwork, you can listen to some nice music at Chastain Park, go to happy hour any night of the week, etc.

Good friend lives in Chicago. He recently got married and has come to the conclusion that once you are married- Atlanta becomes the better option due to housing costs and weather.

Single: Chicago or Atlanta
Married: Atlanta

No, I think you misunderstood me Chip, I am moving to Chicago because IT IS NOT SAFER, I need the HIGH CRIME RATE in order to advance in my career field. That is why I was saying it was unfortunate that it is like that, but a plus for me, that is it, because the more crime, the more money. Not to sound shallow or offend anyone, but it is just the truth. My career field is in criminal justice so I need the crime for what I want to do with my degrees.
