Because the Chattahoochee Recreational area seperates Marietta and Sandy Springs 285 is really the only major road which will work for you. There are several local roads which you can use to cut through but most of these will be congested as well and won't cut any time off your commute.

What it comes down to is the commute between these cities is not fun.
I agree totally with you xxman77. An hour commute time is not ideal, and that would be the minimum coming from Doulassville. Why not consider Cobb County (Smyrna, Vinings, East Cobb). You would be closer to work and these areas of Cobb have better schools and Douglass County. The homes in Smyrna are definately comparable to the homes in Chapel Hills.

To Paver73 - I wish AnnieLMac's advice was spot on, but it's not. Douglasville to Sandy Springs will be one heck of a commute. I live in Douglasville and commute to just the other side of downtown. I only have to take I-20 and it is a daily 40 minutes each way (and I leave at 6:00 AM to avoid most of the traffic). I-285 is ALWAYS backed up. In fact, that is the slowest part of my commute - getting past the 285 interchange. If there is an accident on 20, you are sunk. Everyone will hop off on Bankhead and that backs up. The actual miles between Marietta (AnnieLMac's commute) and Sandy Springs isn't that far, but the actual, real commute on the top end of 285 is jammed. And then traffic in Sandy Springs is awful, too (used to go there myself). If I were working in Sandy Springs, I might try to find a nice, yet still affordable neighborhood in East Cobb.

I completely agree with everyone who says the commute would not be pleasant to Sandy Springs. I have driven that Country Mile to Douglasville and each time I go I feel like I need to take an overnight bag and a picnic lunch. And that's just coming from Downtown Atlanta.

Do you still think this what you wrote?

I have been searching for information about Douglasville mainly because I'm thinking of moving to Georgia this coming September. I have been looking to live in a place where there is a easy access to stores, gas stations and so forth. I would love to have access to the transit system as a back up commute to work. Do you have any suggestions? I'm looking to stay in an area that is not over-populated. After reading, the comments on this site, I'm a little weiry of my visit next month to Douglasville. Maybe I should re-think moving to Georgia...
