Hi Guys,
I hope someone can help me with this. I am making a trip to Georgia probably beginning of next year (am planning well in advance so hopefully it will all run smoothly and I know what I'm doing lol).
Anyway , I am travelling from Australia and I will be flying into Atlanta and I would like to know how difficult it is to hire a car and to find my way out of the City Area as I want to travel North to Rabun County. Of course I will get myself some maps etc but I am really unsure about driving in a big city at first and getting out of there if you know what I mean. Is there any other way I can get to a more non 'congested' type area before I hire a car and start travelling more onto the open roads? Like is there a bus service out of town or maybe a train or something? Please remember it will be very strange for me at first driving on the opposite side of the road and I would rather get used to that out in the open so to speak!
I hope I have explained myself well enough here and I don't sound too dumb!
Thank you for your time.

Echidna.

Atlanta area residents may have different other suggestions. I live in Athens, Georgia. Here is mine:

There is a shuttle to Athens, Georgia from the Atlanta airport. Athens is a college town 70 miles north east of Atlanta airport. This will probably not be too much of a detour. There are car rental places pretty close to where the shuttle will drop you. (Some car rental companies will pick you up, and take you to their office area.) Or, the shuttle may actually be passing by some of these car rental companies.

If this idea interests you, I can give you more information.
