I just got through reading another long and drawn out post on the site regarding areas of atlanta and race that included assumptions and crude comments that I'm tired of seeing every few months when I come to this site as a visitor. I don't think it's wrong for people relocating to atlanta to ask about the demographics, but the way it's asked and the way the responses are worded seem to cause a lot of problems. So here's my question. For those who know Atlanta and the suburbs well, please respond to the following question:

Which areas in Atlanta and the suburbs have a large population of the following ethnicities:

*Asian
*Black
*Latino/Hispanic
*White
*Multiracial (aka really no majority)

Ideally if you could classify the answers further into NE/NW/SE/SW areas of the city and suburbs it might help those of us relocating. Please just list the areas...this way everyone who's wondering can get a truthful answer without additional comments and side tracks. If I missed another population anyone is interested in knowing about, please just ask for it to be added to the list and I'm sure you'll get responses as well.

Thanks a lot for all your help. You all have been an excellent resource.

My $.02---

Buford Hwy/NE Atlanta/Chamblee/DeKalb County is frequently called the International Corridor. Many Latinos/Hispanics live in/around this area as well as a number of Asians. Buford Hwy extends from North Druid Hills Rd to Buford, GA --therefore the Latino and Asian populations moved throughout this area--DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. Pleasant Hill Rd in Duluth/Gwinnett county is very diverse with many Latino and Asian businesses located in this area.

Traditionally north of the city you find majority white populations and the city itself and the southern portion was/is black.

There are numerous threads on the changes in the demographics as you noted.

For a middle class area with the diversity that you are looking for, my recommendation would be Duluth.

If you want a hodge podge of all of the above, I'd check out Marietta.

You missed the elderly and gays...

Paulding County (Northwest side between Douglas and Cobb Counties) is overwhelmingly white, last time I checked it was around 85%. It's growing very fast...transforming from a more rural to a suburban county.

This web site, while dated (based on 2000 data), might be generally helpful:

World Wide Webfoot Maps

You'll have to redirect the map to at the Atlanta metro (it defaults to San Francisco, California), but it'll give you a general picture which I think is still mostly true.

You started a thread w/o a subject, you're gonna get some 'extra' comments.

Are you racist?

You left out Indians and Arabs and these guys make up as much, if not more in the areas you're referring to. Lets not forget Pacific Islanders, Native Americans, Eskimos, <-----that might be a smart A__ statement, but it's actually a choice when you fill out most federal forms.

Most "Arabs" are considered white, and Indians Asian.
