I'm moving to Atlanta in about two months. My job is going to be in the Permeter area. I am looking for either a one br (under $800) or a two br ($950 beign the max) near the area.

Any luck?

Call Promove (Apartments for Rent - Apartment Locator Service | PROMOVE.com). They'll scan the area and find you what you need for this price. It's a free service - they get paid directly from the apartment companies.

I lived in what is now I think called Spalding Crossing (name has changed) a few years back which is right on Spalding Dr. near the overpass of 285 (about 1/4 mile up from Roswell Rd.). I was very satisfied. It's very convenient to everything in the area yet kind of quiet too (despite being right on the freeway). However, it's been several yrs., its changed management and I have no idea how it is now. But I'd look into it. It's in (or was in) your price range.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find anything around Perimeter Mall for less than $1k.

We have just started looking for a 2 bedroom apartment in Dunwoody, and here is the information I have collected by calling the leasing offices. All these prices are for 2 bedroom apartments and a 12/13 month lease.

Dunwoody Place (Peachtree-Dunwoody Rd): $990 - $1050
Post Dunwoody (Peachtree-Dunwoody Rd): $970 - $1040
Windsor at Mount Vernon: $980 for 1 bed/1.5 bath + study, and $1100 for 2 bed/2 bath
Colonial Grand at Mount Vernon: $1040
Archstone at Perimeter Park: Starts at $1085

Some other apartments like The Drexel, Heights at Perimeter Park are excellent but cost more than $1500 for a 2 bedroom apartment. Hope this helps.

Gables Metropolitan, their complex is huge and possibly running pretty good specials! One other place is The Archstone at Perimeter Place, you can walk to everything from those which is a nice feature!
