dang its cold in atlanta right now.. and miami too..

Yeah, but you will spend that 12K in rent and higher grocery, etc. bills!

Traffic going into/out of San Francisco is just as bad as Atlanta. You have to live in the city close to where you work in either place to cut down the traffic. We lived across the Bay Bridge for awhile and enjoyed going into SF but I would never want to live there unless I could live in one of the multi million dollar homes. Tons of homeless people and some pretty scary streets.

Yes, we get hot in the Summer, but your body really does adjust some after awhile. I think it's still hot, but it's more tolerable than when we first moved here. Besides, you will be spending all your days/nights at the hospital, in the air conditioning

I wouldn't let either/or of those be a factor in moving.
a tornado in atlanta is not the equivalent of an earthquake that makes bridges and buildings collapse.

Seems like just last year a tornado got one building downtown. It is still standing but needs to have the windows replaced--???The Westin??.

I would take my chances on surviving a tornado in ATL over surviving some of the earthquakes in SF.

I am biased and cannot give an objective opinion. LOL.

I was born & raised in the SF Bay Area & now I live in ATL. SF is EXPENSIVE!!!!!!! Me personally, I felt that my quality of life would be greatly improved living in a more affordable city. If I get homesick, I just visit. If money is no object then you would enjoy it. Napa is nice to visit the wineries & shopping, quaint bed & breakfast spots. One thing that's great about the area is you could literally go skiing & to the beach in the same day. Reno & Tahoe is a couple of hours away.

San Fransisco is a lot of fun... on vacation.

They are subject to earthquakes, mud slides, rampant heavy fog, wild fires, brown outs, plus flooding. The area is gorgeous and is located in a remarkable area, geographically. Muir Woods, Sequoia National Forest, the Bay, Yosemite, Napa Valley, etc are all there, but you pay for this royally with both your pocketbook and your emotions. I'd pass.

I have lived in GA twice now and recently moved back to the bay area. The bay area is REALLY EXPENSIVE. Even in these economical times the price to live in CA is just too high. GA has everything one can want and more if you just look. If you are starting a family then GA is the place for you. If you are starting off in your career the bay area is the place for you. The job market in GA is not very good and there are no neighboring cities to take the burden off Atlanta when there are no jobs unlike SF. Atlanta also has better weather. In the bay area everything goes but I wouldn't consider it to be liberal (when you compare it to GA then ok). There are better places to eat in GA than SF. SF food is way overrated to me. But in CA there are so many things to do. It really depends on what you are looking for. If you live in GA you will need a lot of contacts to get a job, so make friends quickly.

Also, the traffic is nothing in Atlanta when you compare it to the bay area traffic. You can be stuck 2 hours in traffic very easily on a daily basis. For me the GA traffic at least moved. The carpool is 3 people in CA.

Lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 20+ years and only visited SF once.

As far as weather, you got your choice, Hurricanes, Tornadoes or Earthquakes. You can run but you can't hide!

I have found Atlanta hot, but definately not as humid as SFLA. This winter is very cold to me.

Good Luck!

On the surface, SF seems like a no-brainer. It seemed like such a magical place the two times I went there. But I just wonder how practical day-to-day living there is if you're not wealthy. I guess walking up and down steep hills all the time keeps you in good shape -- that's a plus. LOL.
