I really wanted to live in Dunwoody but understand many people are now sending their children to private school for HS.

So, now we are looking at Sandy Springs specifically the Riverwood, Heards school district and am concerned if most of the kids are being sent to private or public. Trying to get insight from those who reside in Dunwoody and Sandy Springs.

I would definitely choose Riverwood over Dunwoody HS. This from a person that lived in Dunwoody and had close friends off of Heards Ferry Rd in Sandy Springs.

Riverwood is an excellent school. It has an IB program and Global Studies Magnet option. This year they have announced that they will not be accepting any out of district tuition paying students as they are at capacity with in-district students. There has clearly been a shift in the Sandy Springs area to use the public high school option.

Heards Ferry is a very good elementary school, though the other two elementary schools in the Riverwood Cluster are not as strong (Lake Forrest and Highpoint).

Ridgeview Charter School is the middle school and has it's share of plusses and minuses. My daughter has done quite well there in all gifted classes. I have been very impressed with the quality of her teachers and the in-depth nature of her assignments. The building is currently being renovated and is a disaster right now. The student body is quite ethnically and socioeconomically mixed resulting in some "life experiences", but somehow it all seems to work pretty well.

Some of Spalding Drive Elementary feeds into the Riverwood Cluster as well, correct?

Let's forget for a moment that the whole private school thing is going to be turned on its head because of the economy.

How old is/are your children?

A very small wedge of that area does go to Ridgeview then on to Riverwood. I'm not sure of the geography, but my daughter's 6th grade included only a handful of students from Spalding Drive.

Thanks--I looked on the attendance zone maps just after my previous post yesterday...it is a small part...Spalding Drive's "southern triangle" and the immediate areas along Roswell Road just north of Abernathy.

See maps below...
