I was wondering if people could provide examples and pictures of some of the ATL's real OLD buildings, like stuff before the 50s (I know that much was destroyed in the fire and civil war but I don't hear enough about it's antebellum and pre war buildings)

By 50s, by the context of your post, it seems you are referring to the 1850s? Is this correct?

The Digital Library of Georgia site is a great resource for photos of Georgia and Atlanta history. Try this page:

Vanishing Georgia

The Atlanta Time Machine page is awesome too. Try the Downtown page:

If you're referring to 1950 (which you're not b/c you're looking for antebellum) there's I.M. Pei's very first building...131 Ponce.

You might want to pick up a copy of the AIA Guide to the Architecture of Atlanta from the University of Georgia Press. It's available on Amazon.

Thank's that "50s" was refering to the 1950s cause I think that is when the more straight laced "Modern" architecutre took over (like Chicago school)

I'm not hating on post war architecture but stuff before WWII I think has more character, and of course the eariler you go, the cooler it gets (for me).

I hear some REAL old buildings (like 1920s and older) is in the West End, true?
