I know the thread was canceled, but can you please let this one post/thread stay because I would really like for South Georgia to respond. Strictly educational... I just really hate for people to not know certain things when the information is so easily accessible. Isn't it a good thing to open the mind of a seemingly close-minded person?

True... but many people living today reap the benefits from those who DID have a whole lot to do with blacks being treated barbarically.

African treatment of African slaves was VERY, VERY, VERY different than European treatment of African slaves. "His story" and many people seem to ignore this. Read the first 3 chapters of The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano. It is one of the only existing and accurate portrayals of an African's life in Africa prior to slavery, his being sold into slavery in africa, and his experiences under european slavery - written by the slave himself after purchasing his freedom. Almost every other portrayal of African slavery in Africa is second or third hand accounts or pure fabrication and propaganda. Most existing slave narratives were composed after slaves were freed in America or during slavery in America during the 1800's. Equiano is standard reading in most 11th grade American Lit. classes. But you can easily find it in your local library and in most AA Literature anthologies.

It is even in most Georgia American Lit. textbooks. Interestingly, textbooks cut out the first chapter about his life in Africa prior to slavery. Older textbooks start with him being kidnapped in Africa. The most current textbooks just start with him being on the slave ship heading to the Americas. Remember, this is the only accurate account of African life prior to slavery, and they start with the slave ship. Certain people would like blacks and whites to believe that blacks had no history and were just savages prior to slavery. This is an outright lie. MOST of the advancements of Greeks and Romans (who provided the framework of modern American/European civilizations) were taken directly from Africans. [The American constitution "heavily borrows" from Native American (Iroquois) governance.]

Also when you have time, check out "Without Sanctuary" online... Read the commentary. And look for a book called The Black Book. These may help open your eyes.

Right. So you are saying the Africans were fools for trusting the white man? Well, the whole world was duped, because look at us now. America and Europe basically directly and indirectly have a stronghold on virtually every land. From the Roman Empire to today, they've been trying to colonize and exploit the whole world...

South Georgia, I challenge you to read that book and then come back to this thread to let us know what you thought about it. Do you accept?

This is the second thread with a title that grossly misspells the name of the person who was shot. Seems disrespectful.

According to media reports, he was an accomplished and engaging individual, named Vernon Forrest.

What do you base this theory on or did you just make it up? I'm sure that the Greeks and Romans borrowed somewhat from the Egyptians, but the Egyptians were definitely not black. When whites first encountered the negro race they were basically still in the stone age with no written language and many thousands of years behind european culture. Whites were building great cathedrals while sub-saharan africans were still living in mud huts. If these africans were so brilliant why did they let themselves become enslaved?

Don't for a second believe that southgeorgia and elvez represent anyone, but themselves. They do not represent a greater opinion other then possibly that of their small circle of like minded peers.

Vernon Forrest was an Olympian that represent the United States and the sport of Boxing at the highest levels. He also founded a charity to provide assisted living care by trained mental health specialists to mentally challenged adults. He lived an extraordinary life and accomplished things most people can only dream of.

It's sad that this is one of those instances where he had a firearm and chose to use it resulting in him losing his life. Whether a person carries a firearm or not, self control is always the best way to preserve a life.

For what it's worth, it was mentioned that Vernon was literally a few steps from Castleberry Hill and about a mile or less from the State Capitol. In fact there are high priced lofts and University housing adjacent to where he was killed. The area where this happened wasn't a slum (or open air drug market) and he had his 11 year old godson with him. Maybe this gas station was targeted because it is next to an I-20 ramp? I don't know... Regardless, someone who was the American Dream got gunned down by someone that is the American Nightmare.

Ahem.... The Egyptians prior to Alexander the Great and the subsequent Ptolemaic Greek period were very dark skinned or “black” indeed, only after 300 B.C. and the large influx of peoples from the Greek peninsula did the Greeks mix with the Egyptians and the finished product is what you see today. Imagine what Americans will look like in say 300-500 years???? When a society comes together that consists of different backgrounds, races, and creeds, it is inevitable for the society to over time come together as one; socially and physically. And say what you want but the societies in Africa and Asia were well advanced years, and years before the Europeans; the modern day man as we know it today migrated from west to east a full 3 millennia before they even thought about moving northward to Europe, not because they didn’t want to, it was just to cold. Not to mention the fact that History books tell us that the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx are only 4,000 years old, when in fact the compound at Giza and the Great Sphinx show signs of significant weathering due to large amounts of rain, but yet the Sahara has been effectively dry for 6,000 years, so the Pyramids are at least 6,000 years old (IMO I think they are 11,500 years old). But alas history is written by the winners, so the real truth about world history has never seen the light of day, along with documented attempts to cover it up (such as Napoleon shooting the nose off of the Sphinx to hide the Negroid nose). And you can throw that argument of “the Africans enslaved other Africans first” out of the window. Slavery as you and I know it today is a very distinctly western ideology; slavery to the Africans at that time is what you and I would call indentured servitude. In other words the Africans concept of slavery was a nation conquers another nation, the conquered nation becomes enslaved by the victor nation for a period of years, after about 5-7 years the conquered people(s) are given the option to assimilate or go back home. More often than not the conquered people(s) chose to assimilate into their captor’s culture, as the terrain and climate in Africa makes mass migrations quite difficult. I said all that to say this, the Africans back then even though they probably hated their enemies, would not have sold them into slavery if they had any idea what was to really happen to them at the end of the middle passage. But they were too naïve and trusting to understand that the Europeans were bascially playing by a different set of rules

I've never implied that I represent anyone else, and to come to such a conclusion would be foolish.

I don't know who Vernon Forrest is, but I can assure you nothing I've said was meant to directly reference this person.

I think its terrible that a seemingly decent man, from what I've read here, was murdered.

The OP was apparently referencing something I said in another related post.

So its likely the sumerians invented the wheel, but they didn't have the capacity to create automobiles.
