Well, apparently a lot of people do enjoy 80 year houses, hence the popularity of the city of Decatur. Add to that a walkable downtown, a plethora of entertainment options, a crackerjack police department that keeps the city safe and neighborhoods full of beautifully restored old homes, and you've got a pretty darn good place to live. Oh, and I failed to mention another big plus for Decatur...the proximity of the marvelous Mason Mill Tennis Center. However, when the city completes the renovation of the Glennwood Park pool and tennis facilities, that will pretty darn sweet, too.
From where I'm sitting, I don't see a ghetto for miles, nor crackheads or vagrants. If, as you say, Emory and CDC employees make up a large percentage of Decatur's population (and they do), why would they consciously choose to reside in a crime-ridden crack den? That makes no sense.
If everybody else on this thread was contradicting my assertions, I think I'd just wave the white flag and go home.

Default Liability over Sq. Footage

That's what we were told also about square footage. Apparently someone sued a real estate agency when the square footage of their house wasn't the same as what was on the MLS.

It makes it extremely difficult to compare homes without this info, especilaly if you are searching from another state. It's like comparing apples to oranges. We ended up with a house much bigger than we really wanted. There were two households of furniture in the house and it looked much smaller than it actually was.
