I will be arriving at ATL late on a Saturday afternoon and need to travel to a hotel near Perimeter Mall for several days of business meetings. Is taking MARTA a smart/safe idea for a single woman? I understand that Atlanta is like other major cities and I will need to be alert to my surroundings. I have taken BART in San Francisco before with no problems. Also, can I get on the red line and travel all the way from the airport station to the Sandy Springs station without having to transfer? I read something on the MARTA website that made me think that was possible on weekdays but not on Sat / Sun. Thanks in advance for advice.

It is the best way--MARTA.

You will get on the train at the airport and transfer to the north line--the red line at Lindbergh. Unless they are referring to buses--not running on the weekend--I cannot imagine why it wouldn't be possible.

http://www.itsmarta.com/bus-schedules.aspx

from MARTA's site>>>
Note: If you are traveling Northbound from the Airport to the Buckhead, Medical Center, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and North Springs rail stations after approximately 7:30 pm, you need to board the northbound train with "Doraville" destination sign, exit at the Lindbergh Center rail station (N6), and transfer to the North Line train with a destination sign of "North Springs". This is also true for weekend travel to the North Line.

I would think that the hotel might offer a shuttle service from the MARTA station---in fact I would contact the hotel and get suggestions from them. I looked at the MARTA site and IIRC, train service is available on the weekends until ?? 12:30/1 AM--if you think you will be later than that--it would be better to make other arrangements.

Yes, as Shantigo said you will be just fine. It's a nice ride.

I would call your hotel and ask if they have a shuttle. Most hotels in the area do have one, but they tend to use the Dunwoody Station much more so than Sandy Springs. The Dunwoody Station is just one station South of Sandy Springs, and directly behind Perimeter Mall.

Your right Monday thru Friday it's a straight shot.. On the weekends they single track so u would have to get off at Lindbergh and switch to the north springs station..
