The one thing about the Grovetown and North Augusta sites are Bass Pro could be the 'main store'. The Village at Riverwatch includes Costco on the site already. The Carmax area, and Walton Way Ext/I-20 are both pretty empty though.

I agree with nort.

The most likely place should they choose to announce a store again would be the VAR. The next most likely locations would be exit 5 in North Augusta or the Carmax area in West Augusta. Exit 1 in North Augusta (Martintown Rd) is another potential location, but is about as likely as Grovetown. Grovetown is simply too far out from the population center of the metro. The stretch if I-20 between the 2 ends of 520 are the most attractive for development.

I remember years ago the Lowe's in North Augusta was wanting to build closer to the exit 5 area, but didn't because of the lack of all utilities. Similar rumors as to why a Target chose not to build there. North Augusta has recently completed the expansion of all city utilities to this area, so this is a prime site for development.

Bass Pro Shops has been slow in recent years to open new stores in unchartered proven markets. Such delay caused their competitor, Cabela's, to proceed in opening a store in Greenville, South Carolina, its first in the state and in the southeastern United States. With Cabela about to roll out more stores across the southeastern United States, Bass Pro Shops may feel the urge to keep up.

Cabela's... Bass Pro is competing with itself for the most part in opening new stores in the area. Cabela's has always been out West and would be a better choice IMO.

I have to go with REI even though it's not one of the choices..... I think both Gander Mountain and Bass Pro will come back to the area, because they announced stores before the recession hit..

I'm shocked they're building in Albany before Augusta.
