I was scanning through the Census Bureau's building permits survey website and I see the Augusta-Richmond County is on a roll. So far through the first six months of 2016, Augusta-Richmond County has seen 519 residential units approved. The majority of it is multifamily housing. At this same time last year, Augusta-Richmond County only had 314 units approved. The year over year increase is 205 units or a 65% increase! If this trend continues, Augusta-Richmond County will easily clear 900 units this year. 2016 will be the best year for residential construction in Richmond County since 2002 when 886 units were built.
Columbia County on the other hand has seen a decrease in residential construction. Through the first six months of 2016, only 757 units were approved compared to 789 at this same point last year. Though not a large decrease, it looks like Richmond is slowly becoming increasingly popular for residential construction.

A lot of the new people moving in probably aren't as concerned about staying in CC over RC. It seems like the aversion some have towards RC is only among some of the local residents.

That's probably why the guy who's running the Unisys operation here said what he said about the infighting among different areas needing to stop. He lives in RC btw.
