MCGHealth has announced that its $31 million MCGHealth Cancer Center was named an Award of Merit winner by the American Institute of Architects in its 2010 Awards for Design Excellence competition. Judges called the Cancer Center “one of the better buildings in Augusta. The recognition comes less than a year after the 57,000-square-foot facility started welcoming patients.

Much like MCG’s Children’s Medical Center, design decisions were made with advice from patients and their families, resulting in such patient and family friendly features as a café, meditation retreat and rooftop garden. Only three designs were chosen as Award of Merit winners out of a field of 58 entries.

MCG continues to construct huge buildings in the Medical District, but won't build a new parking garage anywhere in site....

So, the new dental school AND the medical commons building will both go on the old gilbert manor site?

Looks pretty d*mn nice though! Wish it was a little bit taller so such a nice building could be more visible, kinda hard to see coming down Calhoun behind the VA hospital and MCG's Sydenstricker tower...

Correct, the dental school and medical commons will both go on the old gilbert manor site...

The dental school will be 5 stories tall... The new building should be visible from Walton Way, 15th street, Laney Walker, and Wrightsboro road...
