Riata apartments could be an option. A good mixture of families and single people. A bit pricey but its good.

Eanes school district is one of the better ones in Austin and is within commuting distance to UT Austin.

There are three apartment complexes right off mopac - it can get a little congested in the morning but it is literally right across the lake from downtown austin

The woods on Barton Skyway - can walk to zilker park, 10 min max to UT, more affordable than others Apartments for rent in Austin, TX - The Woods, managed by Mid-America Apartment Communities (http://www.thewoodsapts.com/floor_plans.php# - broken link)

This one is also right off mopac but older - The Ridge at Barton Creek - Floor Plans and Pricing

gables at the terrace is also right off mopac - a little pricey but could still b in your budget - Rent Apartments in Austin*Texas - Furnished, Unfurnished, and Corporate Austin Apts

Or Windsor at Barton Creek - Apartment Floor Plans Austin, TX | Windsor Barton Creek

I have a 2 bedroom 2 bath 1300 Sq Ft apartment I'm wanting to sublease. It is very secure, has a resort style pool, in a safe gated area near lake travis and has all the amenities you could imagine. Your commute to work would be about 20-30 mins though. There are LOTS of kids nearby and the community is pet friendly.

You're probably going to have a hard time finding a place in your budget that is close to UT. Let me know if you want more information!
