We are still on our journey to finding a neighborhood. One of the neighborhoods we liked bordered on Camp Mabry. It doesn't back up to it but it is a block or two away. Are there any pros/cons of living near it? Thanks!

How about north? Any cons to living near Camp Mabry? Other development?

That's a very exclusive neighborhood, not really many cons that I can think of (other than price!). Close to Mt Bonnell, lakes, downtown, etc.

Are you asking about what sort of noise/traffic/etc happens at Camp Mabry? I lived somewhat nearby there a few years ago, and can't really remember much of any disturbance from there. The occasional helicopter (didn't seem to happen often at all), and then there was a lot of activity around the entrances (securing them) after 9/11. But other than that, it's almost like having a park nearby. Most of what is there is Texas National Guard offices and storage, along with a museum and the track. There is some entering/existing traffic along the 45th street exit @ Mopac each day, but it's pretty minor.

The neighborhoods back there have a lot of wealthy and influential Austinites. I'm sure if Mabry was to ever move, I suspect they'd probably make sure nothing negative got built there.

As for development, there is really nothing going on on that side of Mopac. It's pretty much all built out and long-established.

It's a great place to live. It is a major alternative/cut through for Mopac, though.

That's true of Balcones and Mt. Bonnell. Although, many in the hood are trying to use their influence with the city to abate the traffic.

...and they can continue to do so....but unless they're planning to become a gated community, it won't abate.

Thanks. This is the information I was looking for. Where exactly is the traffic that cuts through?

I wouldn't live on Perry, Balcones or Mt. Bonnell due to traffic. Also, don't get too close to MoPac due to noise.

I'm not an agent, happy to give you my two cents on any home.
