I can't find, in the umpty-hundred pages of the city ordinances, whether it's okay for my neighbor to have someone living in a travel trailer in their driveway or not? Some of the neighbors don't care a bit, others are bothered by the looks of it and home values.
There is no HOA, so the city ordinances are what I'm after.

I'm pretty sure its illegal if the trailer were parked on the street, but in a driveway I don't know. You can contact the City to ask here: City of Austin - 311 Info Center

True:
1992 Code Section 16-5-20; Ord. 031204-13; Ord. 031211-11.

A person may not park a self-propelled motor home or other motor vehicle containing a permanently installed sleeping facility or human sanitary treatment or disposal facility on a public street or alley for longer than 72 continuous hours.

What you might be able to get the owner for would be if the Motorhome is blocking the sidewalk. It's a $40 fine.. better than nothing, I suppose.

1992 Code Section 16-5-20; Ord. 20090924-044.

Here is a link to the Austin City Code:

http://www.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.d...efault.htm$3.0

Refer to Chapter 12-5-9 and 12-5-29 for specifics.

Do you belong to a MUD (which would enforce deed restrictions), or are you in the city proper? Also, you should find out the neighborhood association you fall under. I believe pretty much all Austin neighborhoods are in one. They may know the regulations and who to call to get some enforcement going.

So that applies to "a self-propelled motor home or other motor vehicle", which seems to exclude a trailer.

EDIT: Ok I found this...

Quote:
§ 12-5-10 PARKING OF CERTAIN NON-MOTORIZED VEHICLES PROHIBITED.

A person may not park on a public street a trailer or other non-motorized equipment designed to be towed by a vehicle or other self-propelled equipment.

Not sure those rules apply anyway, since it is in their driveway, not on a public street.

True, just reiterating the original comment about street parking. No worries.

What would really chap my arse about the ordeal is that the trailer on the driveway is inhabited. It seems to be a rather "Eddy Griswold" type of of situation.

I wouldn't tolerate it...unless it was a Gourdough's or Torchy's trailer.

I agree, that was what I meant, I could not find anything prohibiting parking a trailer on a driveway.

I wonder if it would be covered by zoning requirements, an unrelated person living in a trailer on property that is zoned single family?
