So, having been here for about a week, I now need to get a Texas State ID made.

I'm told that this is done exclusively through the Texas Department of Public Services. Looking around though, their website only lists one location in Austin which is:

13730 Research Boulevard
AUSTIN, Texas 78750-1812

Considering I'm at UT for the moment (and quite carless) is this really the only location where this can be done? Because simply put....it's hella far!

No but it will probably be the fastest one especially on Tues-Thurs afternoon. There are two others closer to downtown search again

Texas Department of Public Safety - Driver License offices

No, there's one much closer to you; I believe it's on Lamar.

The search engine on the DPS website has done the same to me many times. It's not very good. If you start with another address or zip code, sometimes you can get the other locations to pop up.

Better off just driving to Georgetown. Never had to wait there.

Fiou. For a second I thought I had just been a rube who forgot to scroll down but I distinctly remember seeing only that one option.

Thanks, folks! Lamar it is! I'll try to get there at 8am!

My grandson, who had lost his driver's license, arrived at the 183 location Monday morning at 8am to get a replacement - he was number 206 in line.

They finally called his number at 12 Noon, and he was out of there at 12:05pm.

I'd try another location - every 16 year old high school kid in town is trying to get their DL before school starts.
