I am a single mother of a beautiful little girl. I have decided to move us to austin, because its time for a new chapter in our lives! Im looking for the most safest and most affordable area to live in. Also, we wont be moving until march 2012. I need to find a job..i have 9 years of management experience at a restaurant and was also a dental assistant for 2 years in between all of that. Im a very hard worker (you have to be, it makes your character) and gets along great with people! I have many skills to offer! If anyone could help me with advice on making a somewhat smooth transition, employment, a safe place to live, etc that would be very appreciated. Im just a small town girl, chasing a big city dream! Thanks to everyone!

There's a very large single parents network here, try meetup.com and look for the singles parents group. We do stuff all the time and can integrate you into the community quickly.

I suggest you decide where to live based on your job. You can certainly find something safe and affordable within 20 minutes of any job in this city. I dont know where you live now but if you work for a national company with locations in this city you may be able to transfer. Even something retail like Best Buy or Target probably offers this option.

cBach, I was going to make the same recommendation -- I'm in the single parents group as well. Perhaps we know each other?

Rlmorris -- Good luck!

Then I believe we do know each other, unless there is another hope that I don't know about.
