Are stores that cater to the healing arts/ metaphysical welcomed in Austin TX? I am considering moving to Austin for my husband's 'traditional' work, but I want to open a wellness center that would offer massage, Reiki healing, Yoga, Tai Chi, meditation, Spiritual Counseling, Belly Dance etc., and also a small international cuisine cafe'. Would Austinites receive a store such as this with success and enjoyment?

Yes, you would be more than welcome. There is a small, but growing number of stores dedicated to the healing arts/ metaphysical here in town. I hope when you visit, you will be able to see them and decide the kind of business you might be able to develop for the city. I love visiting new, independent businesses, or I probably would stop by or give a referral to a friend! Prevention/ wellness/ peace of mind always is the best medication for a healthy life!

I think there are not many more places better for your store than Austin. I often tell friends that I will open a healthy veggie restaurant in Austin if I lose my job. They all agree that a restaurant like that will be successful in this very health conscious, well educated diverse town. You store sounds very "Austin".

Sure, but location is KEY.

Any place where this business would fly will have steep rent.
