That is a good point Steve - I'm heading out over the next few days to actually look at some homes to see what I can find. Maybe I'll be motivated to get this house on the market sooner.

I'm on a standard city-size lot but while sitting in my living room looking out the windows I see nothing but back yard, trees, tree tops, and blue sky. Same thing I saw when I lived on 6 acres.

This is because of how the lot is oriented and the relationship between the living room, windows and the lot. You can't ascertain this without going inside a house and checking it out. Our breakfast area looks out to the side fence and the neighbor's garage-side. Not a great view, but no windows facing us. Our kitchen window looks into the back yard and, again, nothing but green, no neighbors. Looking at our house on google maps from above, or just making assumptions about small lots would not reveal this.

I've been in plenty of 1+ acre homes with horrible privacy issues. The neighbor can see right in - from 50 feet away instead of 10 feet. But still.

There are plenty of homes with the view from where it matters most - living, kitchen window, master bath, master bedroom - offering a very nice visual experience even in small-lot neighborhoods. You just have to get inside to check it out, see what sort of landscaping is in place, trees, shrubs, etc.

Steve

Love that Austin-Steve! I immediately googled it and sent it to my husband. He doesn't get why I don't want to just transfer my kids to better schools, but live in and be part of the community, regardless of the higher mortgage payment.
