I also go to Planet Fitness. The one in Oak Hill is never crowded. Nice machines, most of the people are super nice. I am not a "gym" person, but I like doing there. And it is cheap!

If you decide to join 24 hour, just pickup the two year membership deal at Costco. It used to work out to $12.50 a month, but they just raised it slightly so I think it is a little over $13 a month now.

You have to scan your finger to sign it... what the heck is that all about?? Oh, and not to mention, the people that stare at you while you're working out. I want to work out using the equipment they have but without all the people staring you down and the muscles heads walking around like idiots haha. I have nothing wrong with people having big muscles but it just seem they are there to look at people and have people look at their muscles as if they are some important person. It's silly, I just want to work out without all the drama. Any suggestions on my dilemma? It's way to hot to be working out outside during the day and it's too scary to have a routine workout outside at night.
All they are doing is looking at the new person in the gym. And if you're fat, you'll be noticed. People always stare at other people (or glance really) at the gym. Seeing what you want to do next, if someone is at that machine, the hot gym bunnies, seeing what other people are putting up, etc. Don't think it was anything personal against you. People kept looking at me when I first joined months ago, and now since I see the same people every other day at the same time. They know me now and congratulate me on my weight loss, give me tips on form, etc. Just keep at it. Leaving 24Hour wont' change anything, because all gyms are like that.

And I like the scan thing at 24Hour. Better than worrying about forgetting a gym card.

What time do you go? I absolutely hate going to the gym from 6-8 in the morning and ESPECIALLY after work. I would rather go to the gym between 1-3.....in the MORNING. I do not like gyms with alot of people in it for the simple reason that people love to watch what you are doing instead of worrying about what he or she is doing. Call it paranoia. Don't care.

I usually workout at home and I love calisthenics. I also like to jump rope. Learn to jump rope people. Great cardio workout. Oh and swim and since you're in Texas......

Yeah I like to work out some time between 9pm and 1am. Not that whole time but about an hour and a half between that time frame. I don't think I could get myself up in the morning to work out and then do a whole days worth of stuff afterward. I would just stop working out if that were my only option.

I belong to Gold's and am pretty happy with it. As for people looking at you, I may see people but not really LOOK at them. I'm way to busy dealing with my own stuff to judge. I do sometimes watch people do certainly exercises so I can learn from them. As for "fat people" I am thinking how much I admire them for making an effort. I also look at people that look really good and think about how they've been able to do it and how I need to get it together myself.

I feel exactly the same. Since I am not a gym person, those fancy machines intimidate me a lot. When I first went to gym, I sometimes watched what other people were doing so that I could learn what those machines for and how they were used. When they looked at me, I just told them that I was new and trying to figure things out. In a couple of occasions, people would even kindly show me some work out that worked for them.

If I am looking at you in the gym it is because either:

1) you are using a machine that looks like something out of the inquisition, and I am trying to figure out how to use it and how to have good form

OR

2) you are one really good looking dude.

Either way, feel complimented. I am not judging you.

I agree. That is usually what I think if I'm looking at a fat person. Like, "YOU GO!"

Normally, though, while you're working out, your eyes have to go somewhere - especially the areas that don't have mirrors.

So it's good to remember that even though it looks like someone is looking at you, it could be that their eyes are fixed in the distance in your direction and they're in their own head.
