Are there seat belts on the busses? I'm worried about upcoming field trips, and my child going long distances.

I don't believe so. You may be able to pick them up, but you would more than likely need to sign a waiver. You can always ask though.

in general, in America, no school bus has seat belts. Do some googling, there is a lot of info out there about the standards of school buses (from the height of the bus to the height of the seat backs), generally the insurance industry considers school buses to be a safer option than private cars. But it is a nuanced thing.

Some years ago there was a long article on the BBC web site about how Britain should model their busing system after the U.S. school bus system, pointing out the extremely low injury/accident rate on school buses.

Oh the other hand, I think locking seat beats would be awesome for the driver .

This reminds me of when I heard someone complain about not having air conditioning in some of the school buses in New Orleans last year. I was shocked, because I'd never heard of a school bus with air conditioning to begin with. I sure as heck never had it! That can't be very efficient anyway with the door opening all the time and kids randomly opening windows. Some people are just PANSIES!

To the OP, I do understand your worry, and had asked myself in the past why school buses didn't have seat belts, but I've read articles talking about how the kids are actually as safe as they can be now. Besides, who's going to watch all of them and make sure they have their belts on? I'm sure it'll be okay.

Wanting my child to be in safe vehicle is not being, "that mom". I guess you wouldn't care if your kids drove drunk and didn't wear a seat belt. Geesh!

That is not even close to a fair comparison.
If you are that concerned and they don't allow you to transport your child then don't sign the permission slip and let them stay at school. They usually have something set up for the kids that don't get to go.
