I myself love dogs grew up with at least 4 dogs at all times and 4 cats but my Mr and kids are allergic to dander and fur so can't have them but I don't remember taking any of them in the 70s anywhere besides the park and the vets. If you want to eat with the dog fix a nice picnic and enjoy the park, you were already there.
Thank you. I neglected to mention the allergy aspect as well. And to reiterate, there are many dogs who are not well-heeled and do not listen to their owners. There are many patrons who are scared of dogs. When the OP makes such a complaining post, s/he is basically telling everyone else - "just deal with it." Sorry, but it doesn't work that way at a private business. I'm sure Shady has thought it over and decided that most patrons, dog loving or not, prefer to eat at a restaurant sans dogs. For those who feel that they must have their animal present, there are places for that. No need to slam a restaurant for that, IMO.

Sounds to me like the OP was just making an observation and providing information in case others wanted to know. I don't think they were complaining at all. It's a pretty popular place in a popular area. I happen to think it's cool if you're out walking your dog and you want to stop at a restaurant/bar patio, that you can in a lot of places. Ain't like it's Applebee's with a ton of families around.

i took it as clearly a complaint, but this in a later post makes it ever so clear it was a complaint and not just a friendly notice.

I used to work at one of those Austin dot coms (no longer in business) where people were allowed to bring their dogs to work. In order to get high def color prints, I had to use my supervisor's printer. Her scary Boxer sat in her cubicle guarding the printer. RIDICULOUS, just like dogs at restaurants, imo.

Who wants a dog hair on their chicken sandwich? YUCK.

Nothing worse than second hand hair.

You're missing out. It flosses while you chew.

I guess I'll have to go tell J.D. and Joey (heeler and Great Pyrenees/Lab cross) that I hate dogs. They'll be very surprised, and probably disappointed.

I have no problem with dogs on patios. I also have no problem with a restaurant that decides it's best for its bottom line not to allow them. There are, as mentioned, even by the OP, other places that allow them on the patio, so everyone has a choice.

I love dogs - own two myself. My dogs, in the kitchen/around my table is my choice in my own home.

I don't want another persons dog near me or my table when I'm trying to eat. That's my choice too. Fortunate for me, a majority of restaurants don't allow it.

People in Austin are out of control with dogs. The issue is nobody wants to pickup dog crap. Most people who go to restaurants with their dogs aren't prepared to pick up the crap so employees have to do it. If you are a waiter picking up droppings is not in the job description. I guarantee you some Austin hipster in Birkenstocks with a dog left a nice surprise under the table, which prompted the policy.

I am in favor of dogs being able to accompany their owners on patios.

What I am opposed to are people who bring screaming babies and shrieking pre-verbal toddlers and out-of-control little kids who run around the restaurant, knocking over waitstaff, tables, chairs, while their self-entitled mothers sit on their bottoms ignoring their obnoxious offspring...
