I am 41 years old and I am looking to move out of CA. I currently live in the South Bay. I am so over the crowds and rude people. I am looking for a slower pace of life. Something in the mountains and surround by good country folk. But close to a major city. A place where your neighbor becomes a part of the family.
I am wondering if Texas is the place for me. Are the jobs good? houses affordable?

Thanks for the info in advance.

Well there are places west of Austin and nw of San Antonio that have mountain like landscapes with moslty dry weather but I wouldn't call them mountains, but its as close as you'll get to mountains that are also near a big Texas city. But there are towns that are between Houston and Dallas that have really nice people and homes on acres. No mountains though, the land will be some what hilly with shrub trees near Dallas and flat, wooded and Coastal the closer you get to Houston.

But you could just move into Ausitn or San Antonio. They both have the slow pace thing going on and houses that sit on acres. Houston and Dallas do as well but forget a slow pace of life. And this is Texas so there will be way more jobs than Cali and everything will be much more affordable.

Sounds like you have a lot of unfounded assumptions about Austin, you should probably come visit before making plans to move.

There are often crowds and rude people here. Its not always slower paced. There are no mountains in the way people normally think them, and those are not anywhere close to Austin. Not many people here are country folk, most of them moved here from someplace else. We have become close to a few of your neighbors, but not all of them and I would not consider them as close as family. Jobs are good and bad like anyplace else, except the pay is usually lower. Houses are affordable by many standards but more expensive then most parts of Texas.

Do yourself a favor, visit first.

Your questions are so broad, I don't really know how to help you. What job industry would you be working in? What price range do you consider to be "affordable" for a house?

You do know that there aren't any mountains anywhere near Austin, right? It sounds like you need to visit here so you can see for yourself what Austin is like.
