Also, are you able to get fresh veggies and fruit there?
Yes, but I think you have to go out of your way to find produce that isn't from California

My first complaint about Austin is about the peaches. We drove through Fredricksburg and its myriad peach orchards thinking that when we got to Austin, HEB would have bushels. Nope! All from California. And not the good ones, either.

There are, however, farmers' markets, Whole Foods, Central Market and some farms that have market days where you can get fresh produce and much locally grown. I think there are also farm-to-market type places but I've not been yet.

Sad but peach season passed us by without a Texas peach. Maybe next year!

- As for the above post. I love the fact people should keep up w/ yard work. I mean how would you like it if you have ownership of a beautiful home and your neighbor has a crappy yard, bushes grown all over the place and not kept up. Your home would depreciate. If you don't mind that, then live somewhere that does NOT have a HOA (Home Owners Association) and live like the others where the homes are falling apart. I love the fact that Cedar Park has restrictions of keeping the trash out!!

Referring to the peaches. HEB does carry them, but only for a short while, and, at least in the one I go to, puts them under the name "small Texas peaches". Those are the Fredericksburg ones. Roadside vendors and farmers markets will have yummy ones as well. You may still be able to find some at the Austin Farmers Market.

By the way. We do have at least 2 or 3 farmers market in Austin that usually occur on Saturdays. I heard that these are worth the effort. Google farmers market and austin for some options.

I've only been to one, located at Guadalupe and 4th, on a Saturday. There were only a handful of vendors at 1pm. Either it was late, or they were at the much bigger market that we've seen from the 290 at a stadium parking lot. One Saturday we'll get there.

I also found this web site for an Austin farm:Boggy Creek Farm - Home. I've not been there yet but it does look promising.

I know quite a few people who like Boggy Creek Farm. Good reviews. I think there are two downtown. Been to the Austin Farmers Market (they also have a website). I think it shuts down by 2pm, so yes, may not have been too many people there at that time. We like it pretty well, but there are about 3-4 out this way as well, so we try to stay at those too.

We have all of those stores in Austin except for Trader Joe's. Costco also just opened it's second location here.
