Just wondering about people's attitudes in general; we are looking into moving to the Round Rock area and would love to move to a neighborhood with a sense of community. We would love to be in a place that is both close to nature and to people that respect nature (no littering, recycling all of that). Also what are the best markets to get organic food.

Here in Plano we have central Market and small farmes market but I don't feel a sense of community. People wave hello or smile but never gets past that even neighbors that you've seen year in and year out. I'm not looking into getting into people's business but just get that friendly town feel when you live in a safe close knit community.

also we are traveling to Austin before the Summer ends, any neighborhoods that you can suggest will be much appreciated. We will visit for a week so that will give us time to get a feel of the place.

thanks for any info!

ps. we have 3 children, one entering high school one in elementary and one toddler.

Well you're talking about suburbs, not communities, that's the source of your problem. In Round Rock it's going to be the same.

So Round Rock would the equivalent as Plano, Richardson etc? That's kind of a bummer. Which neighborhoods would you recommend that are close to Austin downtown. We cannot afford to be directly in the downtown area since we need more living space with 3 kids.
Maybe I'm not asking the right questions, I barely get any answers on this forum. has this been discussed to death?

Start with the questions in the thread I linked above. We'll be able to get a much better idea of what you're looking for.

The big ones are commute location and budget (although a previous thread I think you said commute wasn't an issue?) As for the "friendliness" part - I'd say yes. Particularly if you have kids, etc. It's pretty easy to form some good neighborhood bonds/groups, etc.

You keep asking about organic food. It's everywhere.

Thank you ezPeterson weird that I didn't see that link, I'll check it out. I opened this thread because all the relocating questions in the main page seem to be from single men looking for a smaller place and us having 3 kids I didn't think reading that would help me.
Thanks for answering the organic food question, I'm glad to know it's easily available in Austin because here we pretty much have Central market and that's it. And yes we don't need to commute, the husband works from home and I stay home with the little ones. our budget is a max of 1700$ per month of rent. We are not looking into buying right now, we'll be renting for a few years until we decide to be homeowners again.

We lived in Circle C Ranch in SW Austin and found it to have a very strong community. The neighborhood has been around since the 80's and is still going strong.

You'll find the people in East Dallas a ton more friendly than the people in Austin Suburbs.

Ideally we would love a 4 bdr home since we are bursting at the seams in a 3bdr we are right now. Thanks TXgirl I'll check out Circle Ranch for a rental, SW Austin seems to be a consistent recommendation for families.

Komeht If you mean the areas around Tyler, Terrell, I cannot really comment on those since I haven't been there.I have been all over the Dallas area (Dallas, Plano, Frisco, etc) and the vibe is the same, very snobby. JMO of course, I want a more diverse and close knit community and believe me I like to keep to myself and live and let live but not to the point of complete isolation. Thru my husband's job I've met many people who complained about the same thing.
Also in regards to opportunities for my children I see Austin surpassing Dallas by a mile, again JMO. I have visited Austin and San Antonio for vacation purposes but always thought it was a very lovely area. Yes it's hot, but also hot in Plano I have to keep my kids indoors from 10am to 7pm when we get really bad Summer days but when it's nice there's just not a lot of nature here. Hopefully I'm right and we will love Austin.
