Texas State University in San Marcos is expanding at an alarming rate. They are scheduled to have 44,000 student by the end of 2014 by their own projections. San Marcos is no longer the quiet little town it once was and housing can be hard to find unless you like to live in a large apartment complex. Wimberley is the way to go. Small and still homely.
I moved to Wimberley in 2000 with no regrets.

Dan

I am so glad you enjoy Kyle and we are now getting a movie theater along with a bowling alley. Austin Community college just built a beautiful college in the Plum Creek area. Kyle has changed immensely in the last 5 years. And with new Seton hospital. Many people remember the old Kyle , its nothing like that anymore. I live here when we celebrated the dollar store as that was the only place to buy anything.

I'd also be sure to check on the taxing rates and # of authorities in the areas within say 10-15mi radius of your work location, see if you can find a nice property in an unincorporated area close to where you want to be but not subject to various taxes (such as ACC tax, MUDs, etc). You should be able to find this info in Zillow, Redfin, or other comparable apps/sites, or via a real estate rep.
