Hey forum! I am a professional and a student of Buddhism, from New York. I have a job offer in Round Rock, TX. As a Buddhist student, and gay man with a 19 y/o son living with me - I don't want to make decisions based on stereotypes about Texas and Texans. Where should we look to live? I'm open but concerned. We don't want to live in a place we aren't welcome. I know Austin is gay friendly, but we're talking about living in a community with reasonable rent who will welcome us as equals (note: we're used to just living our lives and being accepted and/or ignored). Thanks for your responses! FYI - I can afford 1300-1500 for rent/mo. Thank you in advance for your responses.

Round Rock has a very big Gay population. There are no "Gay" neighborhoods here, just a lot of Gay folks scattered everywhere.

A lot of it depends on what you're looking for in a rental. Do you want an apartment (most have pools, workout facilities, etc.) or a single family home? Do you want some walkability or are you fine with driving everywhere?

Check out Silverado at Brushy Creek. Its in Cedar Park on the West border of Round Rock. You can easily get anywhere in Round rock using highway 45 from that location or 1431.

It is right next to all the Brushy creek parks, which is a really nice area (Champion Park, Brushy Creek Park, Brushy Creek Sports Park).

In fact, you can walk across Brushy Creek road from the apartments to Brushy Creek Park and catch the Brushy Creek Regional Trail. That trail is about 7 miles long and is very scenic. It is probably only trumped by Town Lake in downtown Austin.

Here's the trail system map.

First question is about the job location. No reason to live 10 miles farther away just to be in a particular apt complex or neighborhood. "Round Rock" is pretty spread out...can you narrow down the job/office area for those who know what's what?
