I'm 25 and just graduated with a degree in web design and development. The current city I live in does not have much of a market for this field. So although I've never been to Austin I have heard good things and was considering a move there. Keep in mind I have a 2yr old. How is the job market, in general and in media/ development/ computer systems field? I'm also interested in quality of child care and schools, family friendy neighborhoods and schools,family friendly activities and the dating scene. Details on weather, traffic/ commute, livability and cost of living area appreciated.I will be moving with about $10k in savings,I have a car(gas prices?). Also I want more info on Allendale

Otherwise, a whole bunch of folks are going to ask you to do some research and post again. Take with a small grain of salt all the advice you'll get regarding moving to a city you've never visited...with a small child...without a job...with only ten grand...and asking about Allendale. It can be a tough crowd.

For childcare, you could find a registered home as an option or for a preschool/daycare you might apply for CCMS. It is a government program that pays for daycare, but there are rules attached. Nearly every neighborhood in Austin and surrounding areas is child and family friendly and there is a lot for kids to do.

My advice to you is to get in the door somewhere doing any type of work you can find, as long as the place provides an opportunity for you to move into a developer/designer role later on. This means you'll need to find a cheap place to live until your pay increases. Patience is your best friend.
