My wife and I live in Bakersfield, CA. I am a Nurse and my wife is a Teacher. We have no children and we are about to end our 20s. We are fairly conservative, healthy people. We enjoy outdoor activities and a variety of scenery. We would love to live near a large city and still have some property to do with as we saw fit
You will definitely want something outside of the City of Austin. The permit requirements have gotten absurd and they are way behind on processing them. It can take months to get a permit for the simplest things.

There is a reason your leaving California, which is very unfortunate under the economical circumstances and a reason you picked Texas.
I'm glad somebody said it! Hear, hear!

See above. Austin wouldn't be Austin if it weren't in Texas.

Ha, no plans on changing Texas to Cali lol. No worries. Also, Im not concerned that unhealthy and uneducated are around, Im concerned that my current city has one of the highest concentrations of them in the country.

Thanks for the replies

plus coming from California will help her chances of getting a job there
I don't understand this comment - why would coming from CA help her get a job in Austin?

Because she has taught in an district that is broke, that has a 33 student avg, and that has a different set of problems than you would find in the majority of Texas schools.

I used to live in Austin and Bakersfield. Right now I am planning on moving to Bkf. The reason for that is the property tax is so much lower than TX.

I have done some research on the two cities. If money is not an issue for me, I would move to Austin.

Austin is a lot nicer in many ways. The problems for me are the property tax there is too high and the traffic is pretty bad there in general. Although there were no actual tornado for the three years I lived there, there are quite a bit of tornado warmings there.

The thing in bkf that Really bothers me is the pollution. It is so dusty. There are some nice areas in Bkf. Pretty much anywhere on the West side of hwy 99 is not that bad.

So for me, Bkf is my choice for now. And good luck to you, thekanezzi.
