Where/what are the "on-ramps of death". Be good to know and avoids where possible

The State rates Parmer Lane as one of the top 100 most congested roadways in the state. //www.city-data.com/forum/austi...l#post35383591

I'd say those between 12th Street and 6th Street on IH-35 easily qualify.

An "off-ramp of death" is getting off I-35 Southbound at 15th anytime there is decent traffic. If you want to actually get on 15th, you have to cut across 4 lanes of potentially heavy traffic in a short amount of space.

People travel at the design speed. Parmer has no turns, wide shoulders, wide lanes, no trees, nothing at all to interrupt line of sight. Yet it's not a grade separated expressway. It's the very worst kind of road - a stroad - that unholy combination of street and road and it is very very very dangerous because of it.

Horrible design, horrible idea. Inherently dangerous. Induces bad driver behavior.

We do this all the time - terrible.

Built & designed in the 50s & early 60s. Here's a pic looking north that shows those infamous 20 -30 foot on-ramps/off-ramps on I 35 near 51st street & 290.

As mentioned up thread, the bottom level on ramps between 26th & 45th get the heart pumping. (0 to 70 in 2.5 seconds)

The exit from 1 Southbound trying to get off for 35th St going east is dangerous. People entering and exiting in the same lane that have to crisscross with only a short distance to make your move. Talk about bad design. There are several around like this too.

Austin and the surrounding areas have become ground zero nationally for low brow driving, at least it sure seems that way.

It is sad that the pace of growth here has diminished our quality of life significantly.

Parmer and 1431 are absolutely dangerous. Its not the road so much as the mentality of the drivers.

I've never seen anyone get pulled over for doing 85mph, yet its the norm

Absolutely incorrect. It is the road. The road induces the behavior. Change the road change the behavior.
