Gee, I don't know. . .better designed roads that don't create inherently dangerous conditions?

The ones now are actually the improved, safer ones.

great non-answer!

Parmer and 1431 have traffic lights and multiple lanes for slow and fast drivers. The speed limit is 65mph. This in and of itself creates normality. Again, its the mentality. 'GET OUT OF MY WAY, I'M IN A HURRY' and the fact that people break speed limits, tailgate, and swerve in and out of traffic

The answer is that drivers in North Austin are ****. Worse than other parts of the city.

IMHO every road in Austin is a death trap. No one is paying attention and it's killing innocent people.

Incorrect. You can put that road anywhere in the world with similar volume - it will be inherently dangerous. The road creates the behavior.

Wow...It's a good thing tens of thousands of drivers every day are immune to the siren call of the danger that is Parmer Lane.

Speed limits on a lot of major roads around here are definitely too high. IMO, you shouldn't be going over 50mph through an intersection / traffic light. It honestly makes me on edge when I'm doing the speed limit at 60-65 and hoping the light stays green so I don't have to slam on the brakes.

That's TX for ya.

Same with the undivided 70mph roads, as stated above. I grew up in CT where there was never a speed limit over 50mph unless it was a restricted access highway. Roads had shoulders and there was some margin for error.

As mentioned up thread, the bottom level on ramps between 26th & 45th get the heart pumping. (0 to 70 in 2.5 seconds)

If you think that's bad, drive the Merrit / Wilbur cross parkway in CT. Stop sign, then 30 feet to get up to 65mph of heavy traffic. It looks like back when I35 was built in Austin, traffic was quite sparse.
