Hi everyone

I have done some searching through the forum but wanted to put my potential scenario out there for some advice. Thank you in advance.

I currently live in Houston/Katy. There is the potential that I may have a job offer for a position in Lakeway (sounds like it's down towards Bee Cave off of 620). I have visited Austin a number of times but I am quite unfamiliar with the area as a whole - and particularly the western suburbs.

I have a family and would be looking for a house in the $200K range (+/- $25000), around 2000 sq ft. I have seen a few houses in the south/southwest portion of Austin that fit my needs but I'm not sure how much of commute that would be. The other locations that come up tend to be northwest of Austin/north of Lake Travis, and again, not sure what the commute would be like.

I would plan on getting an apartment for a while before making a decision, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The commute from SW Austin should be pretty easy, 8 miles to Bee Cave. You can definitely find houses in your price range in the area. There quite a few decent apartments in the area as well. Schools in the area are also very good. This information may be of use to you. //www.city-data.com/blogs/blog2...gend-oaks.html

Quarry Hill*- Welcome Home | Apartments - Austin, TX is a one year old apartment complex that looks pretty nice and is within walking distance of the shopping centers at the Y in OakHill.

There would also be a lot of choices in that price range in Apache Shores.

Escalon is a nice apartment on 620, just a short distance from Bee Caves.

I live in Lakeway and have two homes, one is for sale right now both are only a short distance from the new Lakeway Hospital. My husband works and I have just recently left my job in order to seek a position at the new Lakeway Hospital. We have an 1800 square foot home with three bedrooms. My husband is willing to sell it as well if our other home does not. The lot is great, the house is solid, the schools are the best. If you would like a contact in Lakeway to help you, now that I am not working, I would be delighted to help you or your wife visit and research. Pat 512-826-7083

I currently live in CT and would like to relocate to Austin, TX. I recently visited the state and fell in love with what I saw. I am an RN who would seek employment at Lakeway Hospital. Can anyone suggest the best place to live within my means. I am single and would love anyone's help. Thank you.

Start a new thread.

- Let us know what your "means" is. (What is your budget for apartment rental?)

- No kids?

- How likely is it that you will get a job a Lakeway Hospital? (don't move w/o one).

Start a new thread (with your initial comments) & also provide the above info. Lakeway is a very nice suburban area....but get the job first.
