Thank you for reading this and offering your assistance.
We are a family of 5 getting ready to move to Austin from SoCal. We started out on the East coast. We have three kids in elementary and middle school and are heavily considering Eanes schools. We also don't want to be more than 35 mins from the airport. We can spend $1-$1,5M for a 5 bdrm. High on the priority list is a family-friendly environment and a place where kids play outside and ride bikes, join sports teams, etc. Any thoughts/knowledge of the Seven Oaks area? Also, we want to minimize the clique-y-ness in our environment and be someplace down-to-earth and friendly. No keeping up with Jones' for us (yuck). Tell me, people of Austin, what are your thoughts??

Not sure you're going to find alot of seven oaks residents on here. Nice area; I don't know enough people who live there to comment beyond that.

Seven Oaks will fulfill ALL of your priorities except for one. The Jones' LIVE in that area. All over the place are their relatives.

Seriously, it's a beautiful area, Eanes ISD, for sure IS the place you want to put your kids in all of Austin. Traffic can be a bear during afternoon rush hour, but it's more than worth it.

Are you looking at an existing home or a new build?

I'd venture to say that 7 Oaks, a very nice neighborhood, might be a tad bit more than 35 minutes from the airport. Probably more like 45. But what's 10 minutes if you can afford a $1.5 million 5,000 sq.ft. house?

Be sure you ask what the property taxes are/will be on a place like that.

If you are looking for relatvely new construction, that would certainly fit the bill, but for that budget you could easily live closer in to Westlake. There are plenty of nice houses in that price range. Exiting on to Bee Cave in the morning could be a little challenging.

We are looking for a resale home. Can you recommend some other area/neighborhood in Westlake where the Jones' do not live?

The Jones do not like Lost Creek! Much too laid-back for them. Jones also tend not to live in that little neighborhood right down on Lake Austin off of Bunny Run, you will have to drive past the Jones on Bunny Run however, but down on Rivercrest, etc. it is remarkably Jones-free. Also look off of City Park Road, not sure that is still in Eanes though.

Have you thought about Spanish Oaks in Bee Cave?

I think someone would really have to want to be very far out to spend that kind of money and brave that type of traffic to get to anything...

I guess I don't consider it that far out and it is only a few minutes from Seven Oaks. It really depends on where one works. I also hate the traffic along Bee Cave Road between MoPac and 360, and then it seems like everything (essentials- grocery, drug store, etc.) from Seven Oaks. The reason I like Bee Cave is because it is so nice and has all of the essentials so close. Plus, we are about 25-30 minutes from the airport (my husband travels frequently so we like this location). Just thought it is worth checking out before making a commitment.
