I am a teacher in Virginia who will be moving to Leander this summer. I've completed my Texas certification and applied to Leander and Round Rock. I specifically applied for job postings that Round Rock ISD had on their website. The schools were ones that will be opening next fall. I've heard that I should wait for them to contact me, but I see on the new schools' websites that there is already a principal in place for next year. My question is, do you think it is a good idea to e-mail those principals to express my interest for working in their schools? Or should I wait it out to see if they contact me for an interview?

It's risky to sit and wait for them to contact you, so I would be proactive somehow. A lot of times the principals take teachers with them, so I wouldn't limit your searching to the new campuses. If you know anyone in the districts, I would suggest talking with them, because word of mouth is usually how the first rounds are hired. As far as contacting the principal directly, I would be careful on when and how. Be mindful of your timing (don't contact during testing, etc). If you can get a hold of a secretary, they may be able to help you find the best route to make yourself noticable.
If there is anyway you can come and visit, face to face contact always makes a better impression...especially if you are able to do some volunteering or subbing.

Thank you for the response Rae. You definitely make some good points. I would definitely be willing to fly in anytime for an interview if that's what is needed. As far as volunteering or subbing, unfortunately that won't payme enough to pay my mortgage so I don't think that is an option for me.

Here's a recent thread about the same thing. I think it turned out well for the OP.

Also, I know that LISD is having a teacher job fair soon...it may be on their website. Good luck!
