How many people moved to Austin in 2016? Even more than expected — and we expected a lot

https://www.bizjournals.com/austin/news/2017/03/22/how-many-people-moved-to-austin-in-2016.html

It was a love hate thing with Austin, really. 2010-2017. In hindsight, great memories and all... but man, the hyper growth led me to move to a much more chill place (in CO, no I won't reveal it)

I think back to how tough it was to live with the commute. The gridlock is a deal breaker for me. I miss the friendly Texan attitude (not Austin snark) and HEB, plus the action. I didn't want anything to do with the the lame corporate music festivals or the yuppie domain ish.

Anyways, if any of you are thinking about leaving for the obvious reasons, I say... go on a long road trip, find a place you like, and apply for work there.

Yeah if good commute is what you’re looking for, small towns and cities are your best bet.

Lived in Corpus for years, but had to work in Austin every so often. I dreaded those weeks. I'm told that trafic wasn't that bad in the 90's, but it was hell when I worked there from about 2008-2012.

Love the rocky mountains. Will always be my home. There's nothing like the mountains.

So, from OC/LA to Austin to Colorado. And each place you leave sucks and where you're going is great. How many years until Colorado isn't for you?

"Did you take any people with you?"

I can only fit like 5 in my SUV. That's about 400,000ish short of optimal

"Love the rocky mountains. Will always be my home. There's nothing like the mountains."

They are absolutely epic.

"Check back with us in January..."

Austin gets pretty chilly in the winter. It already snowed here last week and it ain't no thing really. The sun melts it all away the next day. Compare the winter here to sitting on Lamar in August at like 4pm, surrounded by Mini Coopers.

"So, from OC/LA to Austin to Colorado. And each place you leave sucks and where you're going is great. How many years until Colorado isn't for you?"

snark snark

"What exactly do you mean by "action"?

Catching some band on Red River that got paid next to nothing to play their hearts out for a handful of people on a Wednesday night. Meeting random, new people on the balconies that overlooked 6th with Frost tower in the background. Playing 3 hour sets at 311 bar and the other dumps; bars that easily rivaled the sanitation standards in Tiajuana. Watching the construction of the condo towers while playing on the stage at the Nook.

There was a guy that slept with his guitar next to the dumpster behind Flaminco Cantina.. I could see the light shining down from the condos on him... a hero. live music capital y'all!
