Yeah, I hear what you're sayin! It will be a tad closer than the one on Gattis School Rd and Red Bud for me. I thought a better location would have been 79 and 685 right next to the new Senior living spread. The location didn't make sense to me either.

Hutto's decade is coming, if planning is done properly, the schools improve, and a good residential/commercial mix can be achieved.

Costs are squeezing people out of Austin big time now. It's getting really bad. I think in the next 10 years we're going to see a lot of "Domain" like developments and "town centers", emerge around Austin.

Leander was a distance outskirt 20 years ago. Now people can live there and never leave as it has everything needed. Hutto will someday be like that, unless they screw it up - which is very possible. Pflugerville made the mistake of building "houses only" in the 1980s and 1990s. It's still sort of recovering from its lack of a commercial tax base, but is doing a lot better now.

And with all the development comes....yes, you guessed it! TRAFFIC. Hutto is no longer a "small town". Just in the last seven years since we moved here it's changed big time. At certain times of the day I get to now sit in traffic. Ugh.

My husband just got orders to work at the USMC Reserve center that is on Emma Browning Ave. I have been doing some reading and like the sound of Hutto. Right now we live in a smaller country town in Tennessee we and like it a lot. Would Hutto be a good choice for us or would the traffic be horrific? Thank you in advance! :-)

The traffic shouldn't be bad(depending on WHERE in Hutto); but it's 30+ miles each way on a toll road. Even the toll road is a bit congested during typical rush(perhaps more in the afternoon?), so it's not like a skip and a jump.

Edit: You can find all the horrific traffic you want on 79 between the toll road and IH-35

It is better to take the toll but if you plan on being here long term we are also getting rail. We are also getting very populated.

Uh, Hutto isn't getting rail. They're getting buses, that then go 15 miles to a rail stop.

Don't get me wrong, they're at least planning, which puts them way ahead of (for instance) Round Rock.

Hutto HEB is open and by all reports has been very busy. I haven't taken the time to go yet but friends say it is fantastic.

I also heard that the store on Gatti School and Red Bud (?) is going to remain open. This seems like they are really close, and I don't understand why they would have them right on top of each other...thoughts?
