I've already gone with AT&T (heard terrible comments about Spectrum).

How about utilities (electricity, water)? We'll be in Round Rock and it looks like there are quite a few choices. Was there a specific company you chose? And why?

You might want to connect with some of your new neighbors for their experience. It can vary from hood to hood as to what's available. Are you in the Round Rock ETJ or city limits?

BTW...we switched from ATT Uverse to Spectrum almost two years ago...still saving money and fairly pleased with the service. I don't think there is one BEST supplier of any utility. I'd be surprised if you had a choice in your water supplier(again, depends on exactly where you live).

I guess my thoughts are to go with the bird in the hand on this one since they were our service back home (they allowed us to suspend for 6 months so we still have the equipment). If I were to go by any of the online reviews, it appears people feel both services suck here. So I'll defer to past experience.

The one thing that troubled me about the comments about Spectrum is the consensus agreed they promised a lot and didn't deliver on pretty much anything. One person's Mom used to work for them and said as much

Went with TXU for energy.

We are txu customers for over a decade. Before deregulation they were the only player in town. We're probably going to ditch them and use another provider when our contract is up.

I went to powertochoose and just clicked on ratings. There were over 50 companies and that just seemed like the easiest way without taking days to research all this stuff. Of the highest rated companies, they were one of the least expensive. We're in for 12 months. I figure I'll get a little better idea when this is up and make a change then when we move into a house. One way or another, it should be less than the $200-300 per month we were paying back home.
