I am looking to make my first trip down to Austin in September and have a few questions. How hot will the weather be in mid-September? Is San Antonio a reasonable day trip from Austin? What would consider to be the top 3 or 4 things to do in the city and surrounding areas?

Low to mid 90's some days. Upper 80's other days.

The later in the month maybe cooler but not cool.

A generic Austin - San Antonio google map request shows 1:16.

Depends where in Austin to where in San Antonio.

City center to city center. I also did a Google map and it showed the same time. I wasn't sure if because it's Sunday morning it may be distorting the actual time and on say a Thursday or Friday the trip could take much longer due to traffic.

I drive to San Antonio early in the morning on Sundays every once in a while. It’s a bit over an hour as you have said. Average temperature is in the low 90s, but it could be close to 110 depending on where the the Bermuda high that dominates our summer weather lands. What types of things do you like to do? They will determine many reccomendations.

Mid September is still in hurricane season. A hurricane or tropical storm making landfall in Houston or New Orleans will send temps soaring in Central Texas.

Slaughter Lane and Interstate 35, Exit # 227, in Southeast Austin

is 55 miles to

Highway 1604 and Interstate 35, Exit # 172, in the far Northeast side of the San Antonio metro area.

I can usually, almost always make that trip in about 50 minutes.

It takes me less than an hour to get from my mobile home in Deep South Central Austin to my friends house near 1604 and the Bulverde exit, near Redland Road, in less than an hour.

On the other hand, leaving from Avery Ranch(within Austin) would be another story for sure!

Don't do it. Weather is miserably hot and humid in Sept. That is probably the worst time of year to visit this Austin or San Antonio.

There are lots of great threads suggesting things to do on a short visit to Austin in this sticky thread that is at the top of the forum //www.city-data.com/forum/austi...fo-thread.html
