I was peripherally involved in the recent RR city council elections and was dismayed to see that both the R and D party actively help candidates run under their 'umbrella' using their political infrastructure .

Okay, didn't see they had a budget.

Maybe Shady Hollow meets all the requirements?

That's on their list. I sent them a PM about the area and have not heard back.

Thirty minute commute is killer in the OP price range anymore. Extend the commute along the Toll road to get to the east side of Georgetown. Georgetown hits the town square requirement, good schools (for the most part - not awarded like some, I know), and has athletic opportunities for kiddo in RR, P'Ville, Huto, G'Town, or Leander within easy driving distance. There are houses with character and should be able to hit the budget. Also likely the least conservative of the communities in Williamson County.

Quick search showed a couple hundred homes - took out anything newer than 2010 to minimize "cookie cutter" results and still have 40 showing under $550k and greater than 2,700sf.

In the OP price range thee is probably a fair selection in RR, G'town, Leander and Cedar Park if they are willing to commute a little further. Still better commute than most in CA.

So sorry ashbeeigh -- having tech problems sending a reply via DM...thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to give all that info. SUPER helpful! Headed to Austin tomorrow for 3 days of scouting. Bee Cave, Circle C and Dripping Springs are top 3. I may cycle back around with more kind requests for info. Thanks again all!

Shady Hollow may be a fit. Looks like it's SW which is where we are focusing on for now. THANKS!

Just throwing this out there but since you were/are so concerned about politics, you need to realize that these 3 areas above don't have all their neighborhoods within their "city" limits. That means you will be unable to vote in city elections. Many places using the Bee Cave address or the Dripping Springs address are just in "Travis County" or "Hays County". That's important to note if voting is important to you. Same goes for areas of "Austin". Much of Austin is not in the city limits of Austin, merely the county.

I didn’t notice too many comments on your son’s soccer. If he is just playing to play it doesn’t matter where he plays really. If he is a top player with college aspirations he wants to play for Lonestar. All 3 of my children (adults now) were high level competitive soccer players. They actually played in Houston before I moved out here, but Lonestar is the only club that even has access to the top level competitive leagues.
