Why is the Eanes school district considered to be better than other school districts in Austin? We previously lived in the Austin ISD feeding into Bowie HS, which also has amazing schools. Is the curriculum different at Eanes? Better teachers? Do the students who do more homework?

What are the major differences?

It is not necessarily better. We are in the district but my kids are still in preschool. From what I see, it is a high socioeconomic background across the board which is going to correlate with higher test scores and higher ratings. It also has a lot of resources and more money for extracurricular programs. There is also likely more parental involvement in the Eanes district and private fundraising. While it is a safe bet for a solid school, I don't necessarily think a student would have a superior experience there that they could not have at many other schools in Austin.

money, nothing else really.

as an aside it's a crying shame that more money translates into higher test scores, etc etc.

Money matters, but size matters too. It's a small district, with only one high school.

It isn't better. It is just the district with the most uniformly highest socio-ecoomic level, nothing more.

I have a kid in Eanes. Higher socio-economics combined with parents and teachers that push the kids. Due to money, the schools have great facilities and resources to help the students. The main complaint we hear is that it can be difficult for a kid to participate in some activities because of the how competitive it is to make teams, get parts in plays, etc. It’s also ultra-competitive in upper tier classes much like Westwood HS. Certainly not a fit for every kid, but we have found it to be great for our child who wants to be challenged academically and in extra-curriculars. It’s really opened his eyes to how high a ceiling he really has. Our other child isn’t a good fit and is thriving at one of the local private schools.

It's considered better because the student scores are really high and almost all HS graduates go to college.
