VAF84 might be talking about the old Jefferson Chemical site where the Crestview Commons is now located on Lamar north of St. John’s.
That industrial laboratory plant had quite a bit of acreage there in the 1950s & 1960s, and maybe into the 70s. Don’t recall when the property sold. Undoubtedly a lot of toxic materials went through that place over the decades. Back in those days chemical waste cleanup was almost unheard of.

About 1960, two Jefferson employees were blown to smithereens in a small building on the back part of the lot. They apparently got careless while mixing/handling some volatile substances. My brother saw the huge fireball from his backyard over by Hardy & Piedmont. That lab building was totally demolished too.

The righthand photo was taken in front of the more modern headquarters built later that fronted directly on Lamar.

Oh, okay. I don't consider that to be Crestview, especially in any historical sense. I actually have no problem with those houses going in there because they are not destroying the neighborhood.

You did notice (or maybe not) that I said I am NOT advocating regulating. But I reserve the right to point out that someone's taste is all in their mouth and what damage they are doing to a neighborhood. They don't have an innate right to no predictable consequences of their own actions, in other words, even if that's just being looked at as a locust by people that care about the neighborhood/city.

They may not care, probably don't.

That was the Huntsman Chemical site that was near Gault and Lamar. The Crestview Commons subdivision now stands on the property and there was considerable remediation done to the property in order to make it habitable.

So Huntsman took over the old Jefferson Chemical Lab site? I didn’t know that.

I think this area is the Highland park area and not Crestview.

Highland Park is an upscale area south of Northland/Mopac. I used to live there long ago.
