Oracle and its largest competitors in the software & programming sector. Oracle is a pretty stable/reputable company who has been around a very long time and doesn't need to be headquartered in the Valley as some of these other newer companies do. Plus the move makes perfect sense in a post covid world, from a business sence and politically... Larry Ellison was a Trump supporter this past election which is very rare among the Silicon Valley elites. Oracle would likely still have a huge presence in the Bay and with everyone working from home at the moment, there likely will not be a big exodus of Oracle employees from Silicon Valley to Texas

2019 Forbes list for the "Software & Programming" Nice to see Rackspace down there as well, I wonder if Oracle might acquire them one day.

Good thing Larry Ellison downsized yachts a few years ago from the 452’ “Sunrise” down to the 288’ “Musashi”.
Maybe he can fit it on Lake Austin...

Too many people are blaming California when they should be praising Austin for landing Oracle. It didn't land in our laps. Austin is a city that people from all over the country want join regardless if they're from a red or blue state.

Austin has "it" in the way that many of the largest cities in the US had "it" at some point in their history.

This is a reminder that instead of tax breaks a city should invest in the things that make people love a city. Parks, ease of movement, great schools, things to do. As more people want to live here, companies will want to relocate here.

I love the free market, but like a company a city can and should guide a point of view and make strategic investments to serve their constitutents. A company has a vision and a point of view and so should a city.

I voted against project connect, but I can see how it could be the type of thing that makes living in the city center much easier (at the expense of the suburbs). All the bike trails act as huge parks and as ebiking gets more popular could allow many people to commute via bike.

An example is the push to have mainly local restaurants at the airport. The free market would say get the highest paying vendors, which would all be national chains and the airport would be like every airport. Instead the airport is actually fun and a slice of austin.

But what about the “lower economic class” of residents who can no longer afford to pay the jacked up property taxes to pay for all those nicethings?

Tip of that hat to Austin for sure but it's mostly due to California. Austin isnt the only city landing relocations from CA.

I personally also feel its largely due to California. They are practically cursing California on their way out the door. Austin just so happens to be one of the cities that has a similar feel and vibe to California but not quite as extreme like Portland and Seattle have become. If California did not tax them so heavily, did not have so many quality of life issues, and were similarly as business friendly as Texas they would likely not have left California.

Although I do feel they are choosing Austin as a relocation site for reasons (such as UT, Greenway/Trails, heavy presence of high-end tech workers) as there are plenty of other business friendly metro's they could go to.

I'll take some credit for pushing pulled pork and sweet tea onto the menus when we arrived 13 years ago
