I'm seeing some school districts are stopping advanced placement math classes because few minority students are included.

Is AISD considering doing this?

It is a crime if they do such a stupid move.

That was in Virginia. No. AISD is not reducing course offerings.

Gorzycki Middle School expanded their advanced math courses in the last few years. They now have a Geometry track where kids take a double blocked advanced math class in 6th grade, Algebra 1 in 7th, and Geometry in 8th. Other middle schools like Kealing, Lively, and Small have had similar advanced math tracks for a long time. I haven't heard any rumors of those math offerings being reduced. I'm pretty sure that most of the AISD middle schools have an option to take at least Algebra 1 by 8th grade allowing a student to progress to Calculus by 12th grade.

I saw the news reports about what is happening in Virginia, but I think there is more to the headlines than "eliminating accelerated math." My understanding is that they have proposed a more integrated approach to teaching math incorporating the concepts taught in algebra 1 and 2 and geometry instead of the traditional sequence of classes. California has adopted a similar curriculum. I honestly haven't looked at the specifics, but I've heard that there are pros and cons.

I would take any California educational “innovations” with a big grain of salt. A number of them were adopted by AISD over the past 50 years and flopped badly.

Not sure what this comment has to do with the question. The question was answered and it’s “no.”
