Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this flyover relatively new? And they just blew it up because it was too steep?

Why isn't anyone upset about the fact that this was basically a really costly screw up?

I wasn’t around when they built it so not sure how old it is. At this point I think I’ve just learned to appreciate just about any road improvement Austin makes. It is inconvenient though. I usually have to go up to Parmer and just completely skip 183. They say it will take 3 months to finish. I don’t think they intend to make the ramp wider either.

I reckon they were in danger of actually finishing a section of 183, so they figured they better come up with a new project. Let's hope they don't leave the ramp unfinished like a couple of south projects that took an extra decade

There’s ways of dealing with unfinished ramps

I'm not sure what the issue was, or whether it was the steepness or not, but that ramp has been a huge issue contributing backups on I-35 for years. I do think the steepness probably was an issue for heavy trucks, low hp cars, and nervous nannies who'd slow down to a crawl by the time they got to the curve. I really hope it doesn't remain one lane; I thought the new one would have two lanes since they're spending the time and money on it.

They stated it was an issue for trucks. I think they are only rebuilding the incline section though and not the whole ramp. What I’m trying to figure out is how they are going to build the 183 South to I-35 North ramp.

I quit going to the old location of the Volvo dealer down there...back in 2009...because of all the construction. Now, the new dealership is in place and it's nearly as bad as over a decade ago. I'll be too old to drive by the time they finish that junction.

There’s hope! 183 East side and also I-35 South side is finished besides some touch ups here and there! Besides that junction and 130 east side I can’t think of many more road projects.
