Hi All,

I am moving to Austin from second week of August 2021. What are my other options in Austin to commute if I dont have a Drivers license? My office is about 10 miles away from my apartment.

Bus, cab, Uber/Lyft, bike, etc. Would need more specifics to get more specific.

My visa extension application is awaiting approval. I am moving from TN where I have a valid drivers license till 1st week of August. I am not sure if I can get a license without a valid visa unless there is some grace period. But that too my DL is from state of TN.
I am leasing an apartment at 'Ranch Rd 620 N, Austin, TX 78717' and my work location is near to North Austin(zip 78758). Will have to go to office 3 days a week due to Covid restrictions and may be on weekend to nearby grocery store.

Your TN DL should be valid in Texas for some period of time - at least 30 days? - and you might be able to get an extension, I don't know, and many people take longer than that to 'convert' their DL. If your visa is not valid, that is more of a big deal, I would think.

I personally would not worry about driving with a TN DL for quite a while. How long does it take to get the extension approved?

It is stated that the processing time will take anywhere between 4 to 7 months by normal processing and 15 days by premium processing. May be I have to go for a premium processing.

Does Austin have frequent Bus transportation? Has Uber/Lyft started ride share in Austin post Covid restrictions? or is there a monthly Uber/Lyft subscription concept available that I can take a look?

Uber/Lyft have been running throughout covid, as far as I am aware. Bus commuting is generally terrible unless you are fortuitous with starting/ending location.

That’s a pretty suburban part of town. Like others have said, your best bet is going to be Uber/Lyft…and I also think you should be okay with an out if state license.

I can't imagine paying the current Uber and Lyft prices for commuting on a regular basis.
