Hello, my fiance is a physician. in the Army and have an opportunity to PCS to either Fort Hood or Fort Bliss. Of course our decision is largely based on where I would have the best chance to find employment. My field is IT (i.e. computer science, computer engineering, system security, etc). I also hold a security clearance therefore it is VERY important for the place of choice to have a need for cleared personnel. I would like to know if there are a defense contractor recruiting presence in either area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance. I also posted in the El Paso forum.

Check out various large IT firms that supply on base IT personnel...SAIC, L3 Communications, etc. They are ALWAYS looking for qualified staff with clearance.

I do DoD consulting, solely for the USAF though, and I haven't seen a base that doesn't have an IT personnel shortage especially when it comes to staff holding clearance.

Yeah, at my former firm, I was told that if I had clearance I could've went and managed the expansion of the US embassy in Lithuania without having any construction experience. They just needed a competent body with clearance. Clearance generally equals job security. Add in competence and you're golden.

While I can't comment on your job prospects, if you decide on Ft. Hood, I wouldn't recommend living in Killeen. Everybody I've ever talked to that lived there couldn't get out of there fast enough. Just driving though you don't get the best impression of the place.

The good news is that there's more desirable nearby communities...
