The rain gutters are totally unrelated to flooding issues

Also, I don't think you fully realize the magnitude of texas "rain burst" events.

Portland(for instance) has a record daily rainfall of 6 inches.

Austin's record is _15 inches_.

During the 2015 memorial day floods, certain areas had 12-13 inches in _4-6 hours_.

That's why Texas floods, not gutters.

Or the flooding in Houston in April

Houston flooding put into a historical context

"Rainfall rates of 1″ in just 5 minutes were observed in Harris County. The maximum hourly rate was 4.7″. The maximum amount in 12 hours was 16.7″"

"The highest rainfall total in the region was 23.5″ recorded in 14.5 hours in Pattison, just north of Brookshire in Waller County."

A random, one-off necro-post from 2000 miles away at that!

Or the flooding in Marble Falls in 2007 when 19 inches fell in just 6 hours. We had flooding at our house then - we got only a spattering of rain but upstream from us got 9 inches in 4 hours and it all came downstream and WAY above the hundred year flood plain (which conveniently has a fence going right along it so we know exactly where it is). We had about 18 inches of water in our front yard and my husband paddled the canoe around the yard. Almost none of that water was from the roof of our house because it wasn't raining here.

Make sure those downspouts put the water where you want!!! At our last house, a 1/4" shower could fill our 60 gallon rain barrel from ONE downspout.

Every house I have ever owned had gutters. Some were installed after I bought it. Flooding isn't the issue if you have adequate drainage by the house. You can control flooding without gutters. But dirt splash and washing out are issues without gutters and they make it easier to control drainage problems.

Does puddling hurt the foundation? We don't have gutters and the water flows well. But at times. there's a lot of puddling on the side of the house.
